Welcome to Joanna Hughes Wellness!

Eating, cooking, exercise, health, wellness, —it should be simple. As the brilliant Michael Pollan said, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” Well, unfortunately, things aren’t always black and white.

I ate a clean, varied and balanced diet. But, regardless of what I tried (roasted cauliflower, celery with nut butter, seaweed salad, swallowing garlic cloves whole), I still felt miserable all the time. What I didn’t know was that I was suffering from SIBO and an overgrowth of Candida and pretty much all the foods I was eating were making me sicker. I spent a year using food and nutrition to heal my gut. I learned how to prepare and enjoy low FODMAP and Candida friendly recipes and how to hack my orders at restaurants while still supporting my diet.

I have always enjoyed playing around in the kitchen: cooking and adapting recipes to make them healthy and delicious (life is too short to waste your time on a “meh” meal). However, preparing dinners and feeding my family of diverse palettes wasn’t always a picnic. My children fall into two camps: one who happily tastes new foods and eats practically everything placed in front of him and another who is as picky as they come. My Texan husband prefers when plates come with dividers and believes that a perfect meal consists of a meat, starch, and a veggie. Trying to feed this motley crew (and deal with my own restrictions) hasn’t always been easy, but over the years, I’ve learned a lot along the way.

I decided to launch Joanna Hughes Wellness so that I could assist others in similar situations. Armed with my nutrition education as a certified holistic health coach, 15+ years of teacher expertise, and personal experiences I will thoughtfully and practically guide you towards your wellness goals.
